Everyday Summer-Makeup Tutorial
The hot summer sun is fabulous for beach lounging, but not so great when it comes to managing our beauty routine. The heat causes all sorts of challenges for makeup application (and long-lasting wear), but thankfully there are a number of tricks and products to help make your morning makeup routine go a little smoother—pun intended! Rosie Jane Johnston, a celebrity makeup artist and the founder of her own eponymous beauty line, is stopping by to share her six-step process for perfecting summer beauty, and you can see the breakdown for yourself below.
TOOLS
1. MAC Strobe Cream
2. Clé de Peau Concealer
3. Elizabeth Arden Dual Ended Eyeliner/Highlighter
4. Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara
5. By Rosie Jane Essentials Cheek and Lip Gloss
DIRECTIONS
Step 1: Start with clean skin and apply a generous layer of MAC Strobe all over the face. Strobe Cream is great because it has a slight luminescence, making the skin look dewy and youthful.
Step 2: Because it's summer, you don't want to wear foundation every day. Using a concealer is a fuss-free and natural alternative to getting even, fresh skin. Apply Clé de Peau Concealer to the under-eye area and any problem areas on the face, such as blemishes or touches of redness. Blend very well with your fingers, a brush or a sponge. TIP: Using the Strobe Cream as your base will help the concealer go on smoothly, resulting in a natural look.
Step 3: Take a dark brown or black pencil liner and apply it to your eyes right along the lash line—from the inner corner all the way to the edge. Blend and smudge the line with fingertip or a brush. Add two to three layers, blending after each application. Use the highlighter end of the pencil in the corners of the eyes to make them pop. You also can use a brown pencil to darken and fill in your brows.
Step 4: Brush lashes with a clean mascara wand, then apply two good coats of mascara. Allow each layer to dry before applying the next layer.
Steps 5 and 6: Take your By Rosie Jane Cheek and Lip Gloss and dab it onto the apples of your cheeks, and then blend it along your cheekbones until the desired color strength is reached. Use the same color on your lips. The By Rosie Jane gloss gives a pop of color and moisture to the lips, making them (and your cheek skin) look healthy and glowing. We chose a peachy color in this tutorial because it's a natural hue that looks great on the lips, too.
